Dr Matt Garoufalis - Vice President
FIP Vice President Mathew G. Garoufalis DPM
Dr. Matthew G. Garoufalis graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio with degrees in Biology and Economics and went on to graduate from the Dr William M Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 1982. After completing a surgical residency at the Westside VA Medical Center in Chicago, Dr Garoufalis began private practice in Chicago. He now has offices in Chicago and Hinsdale, Illinois. He is the Associate Chief of the Podiatry Section and Assistant Residency Director at the VA Chicago Health Care System, Jesse Brown VA Medical Center.
Dr Garoufalis is the past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and is currently the Immediate Past President of the American Podiatric Medical Association. He was elected to the FIP as Vice-President on May 10, 2014 in Reykjavik, Iceland. Matt has been a member of the Chronic Wound Care Work Group for the Physicians Consortium for Performance Improvement of the American Medical Association and is the APMA representative to the AMA PCPI. He is committed to the expanding public awareness about the importance of podiatric medicine and in allowing students and young practitioners to realize the dynamic positive impact they have in shaping the future growth on the profession. Dr Garoufalis is Board Certified by the ABPS and ABPOPPM and is Fellow of ASPS and ACFOAM. He is a certified Wound Specialist by the American of Wound Management. He has authored many articles and has lectured extensively on a variety of topics pertinent to wound care, podiatric medicine and surgery, and practice management.
Matt is a dedicated family man as he is husband to his wife Kathy as well as father and grand father. He is equally dedicated to his profession where he has not only made a difference but has been an inspiration to the future of our profession.
